Comparison of Butler's Neuromobilizations and Proprioceptive Neuromuscular Facilitation in Improving Upper Limb Sensory Impairments in Post Stroke Patients

To Compare the effect of Butler's Neuromobilizations and Proprioceptive Neuromuscular Facilitation in Improving Upper Limb Sensory Impairments in Post Stroke patients.
Objective: To compare the effects of butler's neuromobilizations with proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation in improving upper limb sensory impairments in post stroke patients.
Method: 20 post-stroke patients aged 45-60 years participated in this study. These subjects were divided in two groups, namely Group A that received Butler's neuromobilization along with conventional physiotherapy and Group B that received Proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation along with traditional physiotherapy. Outcome measures included Two point discrimination, Stereognosis and Thermaesthesia.
Results: Paired t-test was used to study the before and after effects of Butler and PNF within their respective groups. Unpaired t-test was used to study the comparison between Butler and PNF. There was significant difference between the pre and post test values for both the groups. The results showed that there was significant improvement of two point discrimination and stereognosis in Group A as compared to Group B. However, there was not significant difference between both groups in improvement of thermaesthesia.
Conclusion: Butler's neuromobilizations have significant effect in improving two point discrimination and stereognosis as compared to proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation.
