Background of the Study

This study to compare the efficacy of post isometric relaxation versus PIR with TENS on upper trapezius myofascial pain syndrome.

Objectives

To evaluate the effectiveness of PIR and PIR with TENS on upper trapezius myofascial pain syndrome.

Methodology

Quasi – Experimental study design. The study was conducted at EMG laboratory, physiotherapy department at JKK sampoorani Ammal Trust Hospital, Komarapalayam. A total number of 20 subjects with upper trapezius MFPS was selected by purposive sampling method for duration of treatment about 1 week in the outpatient physiotherapy department. After due consideration to the inclusion criteria and they were divided into Group A & B with 10 subjects in each group. The study was conducted for a period of about 1 year.

Data Analysis

Based on the data VAS for pain and surface EMG used to analysis the effectiveness of PIR and PIR with TENS, the calculated value was greater than the tabulated t-value (P<0.05) which showed that there was stastical significant different between group B and group A.

Conclusion

This study was concluded the mean value of Group B showed that there was significant reduction of pain after the application of PIR with TENS when compared to group A.
