Subscribe/Renew Journal
Objective: To evaluate efficacy of physiotherapy management in women with Stress Urinary Incontinence(SUI).
Methodology: Total 11 women with complaint of urinary incontinence were recruited for the study. Out of them 9 post menopausal females ( mean age : 49.44 years, SD=7.23)were included as per the inclusion criteria after signing the consent. Physiotherapy treatment was given in the form of pelvic floor muscle training and life style modifications for 4 weeks.
Outcome measures: pelvic floor muscle strength, frequency of micturition per day, number of leakages per week and Incontinence Impact Questionnaire Short Form(IIQ-SF) score.
Results: There is highly significant difference in all four outcome measures pre and post treatment: frequency of micturition(p<0.0001), number of leakages per week(p<0.001), Per-vaginal MMT(PVMMT) (p<0.0001)and IIQ-SF score(p<0.0001). The results conclude that after 4 weeks of exercises the subjects had significant improvement in SUI. The number of leakages, micturition frequency and IIQ score decreased whereas per vaginal manual muscle testing score of pelvic floor muscles increased.
