Educational Intervention on Prevention of Uterine Rupture

Uterine rupture is a common occurrence in Sitapur, UP, India, and the investigator has gone through retrospectively and identified that, the number of uterine rupture was very high and antenatal health care were also found to be minimum in rural area, by keeping this in view a in (2009) a pre experimental approach (Evaluative) was used to determine the effectiveness of a planned teaching programme on prevention of uterine rupture among 100 women in reproductive age group(18-45yrs), in selected areas of Sitapur District, Uttar Pradesh. The data was collected by one group pre-test post test structured knowledge questionnaire on prevention uterine rupture. In the pre-test (63%) of women had very good knowledge based on structured knowledge questionnaire as compared to 95% in the post-test. Based on the posttest knowledge score of women the study identified that the teaching program on prevention of uterine rupture was very effective in enhancing the knowledge of women. Wilcoxon signed rank test showed Z' value (Z = 8.454, p value 0.001) was significant at 0.05 level of significance. There was significant difference between mean pre-test and post- test knowledge scores. Hence the teaching programme was effective in improving knowledge of women on uterine rupture. There were associations between pre-test knowledge score of reproductive age group women between, age, education, marital status, and socio economic status, at 0.05 significant levels. There was no association with pre-test knowledge score and religion. The study concluded that the teaching programme on prevention of uterine rupture was effective in improving the knowledge of women on prevention of uterine rupture.
