Balancing Social Network Sites Usage among Teenagers with Parental Involvement:Effects on Academic Motivation

Discussion about the risk of online activities among teenagers is an emerging issue among researchers. This article observes the role of parental involvement in balancing Internet and soctal network sites(SNSs) usage among teenagers and how it affects their academic motivation. The data collected through a survey analyzed the relationships between 1) parental involvement and SNSs usage, 2) SNSs usage and academic motivation, and 3) parental involvement and Academic motivation. The study found that parental involvement exerts a significant effect on SNSs usage and academic motivation. SNSs usage has a negative correlation with academic motivation. This study recommended future intervention program for parents to enhance their involvement in their teenagers' daily activities.
