Human population is growing at an alarming pace. It creates extra demand for resources of food and clean water But the potable water is becoming the major issue of the world (WWF, 1998). Heavy metals also predispose to major health hazards. These are the natural components of earth crust. These metals have high density and are lethal to human tissues even at very low concentration. The common heavy metals are Cadmium, Copper, aluminium, arsenic. Lead, Cobalt. Water contamination by these metals is dependent on the environment pollution (Funari & Ottavini, 1997). The present paper reviews characteristics of drirnking water.
