Performance Analysis of Plastic Worm Gear in Centerless Grinding Machine
Subscribe/Renew Journal
Conventionally worm gear drive used for control wheel, required for providing feed forward motion to the grinding bars and components in center less grinding machine. The costlier wear resistant worm gear made up of bronze generally used for speed reduction. Worm generally made up of steel are used to drive bronze worm gear. The gear wears, firstly than cheaper worm and need to replace continuously. The cheaper and noiseless nylon 66 gears are wear resistant and provide better performance and life than metallic gears. This paper presents replacement and performance analysis of metallic gears by non metallic gears. The complete wear phenomenon has been studied and compared with metallic gears. The results obtained signify increase in the process capability of machine at the same machining parameters used for metallic gears.
