Abstract

Prosthodontic management of child patients is often a challenge because the affected individuals are quite young. This is important that child patients to receive appropriate dental treatments at an early age for physiologic and psychologic reasons. The main objective of the prosthodontic treatment are to restore the deciduous arch, the appearance of the child and the peace of the mind of the patient and at the same time to educate the parents and child regarding regular dental care. This paper reviews the various prosthodontic treatment modalities in child patients.

Abstract

The present study was conducted to investigate the impact of occupational exposure of petroleum fumes on hematological profile of petrol filling and garage attendants presently working in our locality i.e. South Haryana, India. A total of 125 adult males (18-40 years) were divided in five groups i.e. control group having grocery shop attendants, petrol filling station attendants with occupational exposure upto and more than 8 years and garage attendants with occupational exposure upto and more than 8 years. Complete blood profile (CBC) was assessed to evaluate the impact of petroleum fumes on hematological profile. A significant fall in red blood cells (RBC), hemoglobin and hematocrit count and significant abnormal rise in mid-sized (MID) cells was observed in all test groups having exposure to petroleum fumes in proportionate to their exposure period. In conclusion, occupational exposure to petroleum fumes may cause anemia and leukemia which worsen with prolonged exposure.

Abstract

Objectives: Transition metal stearates are example of potent pro-degradants reported to work at trace levels. They speed up the oxidative reaction leading to polymeric chain cleavage and reduction in molecular mass causing bio-assimilation of plastic waste. In this paper, attempt to analyze the effect of different loading amounts of cobalt stearate (CS) on the polymeric matrix of polyethylene terephthalate (PET) has been reported. Methods/Statistical Analysis: Formulated compounds were melt blended using an extruder and the extrudates were pelletized prior to molding into bone shaped specimens using an injection molding machine for characterization purpose. Findings: The effects on the incorporation of CS on the mechanical properties revealed that CS influences its tensile strength and elongation at break (%) at processing stage and studies based on Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR) spectra and carbonyl index (CI) measurements indicate that blends’ consisting of 0.25CS contributes to thermal degradation of PET. Application/Improvements: The outcome of this study would assist in the production of biodegradable materials which could decompose in shorter time frame as well as reduces plastic waste in environment.

Abstract

Objectives: This paper presents a review on the application of simulation software as a tool aiding in design and manufacturing aspect of wood plastic composites (WPCs). The scope of application of models present in literature by previous researchers is discussed in general. Methods/Statistical Analysis: A review on the simulation in wood plastic composites manufactured by compression moulding process is presented by analyzing the data present in literature. Important factors which affect the mechanical properties of final wood plastic composite products are stated. This paper also addresses the challenges of application of simulation models for prediction of mechanical properties of wood plastic composites by other researchers. Findings: Simulation models related to wood based composites are discussed and their applicability for wood plastic composites is reported. A need of simulation software for WPC prediction purpose and easy to use by other researchers is highlighted. Application/Improvements: Importance of collaborative efforts between material researchers and computer science researchers is also highlighted to fulfill the need of the simulation software in wood plastic composite area.

Abstract

Diabetes becomes a global health burden, affecting almost one third of world population. This figure is self explanatory for its alarming growth and concern to be given for its prevention and management. It is erroneous to treat it as a disease rather it should be treated as a syndrome, because rarely it is presented in its discrete form i.e. only hyperglycemia as a clinical feature. Being a metabolic disease it is almost always accompanied with many other diseases like hypothyroidism, hypertension, fatty liver disease, obesity, dyslipidemia, etc. According to the known pathophysiology of diabetes, hyperglycemia is said to be responsible for dyslipidemia, constant high sugar level in blood produces dreaded effect at micro as well as macro- vascular level. This established pathology of the disease revolves around high glucose level in blood and make it the diagnostic parameter for diabetes. Although the cause of hyperglycemia are also well defined but there is one missing link which is totally neglected by the modern science i.e., role of liver in the pathogenesis of diabetes. Do any way hampered liver functions affect insulin production or its utilization by the cell- the question that required answer. This clinical trial is based on materializing the concept that effective bile secretion improves insulin activity. This is a pilot study carried out on 15 known patient of non insulin dependent diabetes. The study showed that 66.6% patient has diabetes associated with hypothyroidism followed by dyslipidemia (60%). The study drug shows significant (p< 0.001) reduction in both FBS and PPBS and improve the presenting symptoms effectively.

Abstract

Since the ancient time India is famous for having rich collection of plants used as spices and hence India has a good export market of these plants. The states in India, which are known to grow spices in large quantities and contribute a major share in the export market are Kerala, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra, West Bengal, Sikkim and Madhya Pradesh. Spices like black pepper, cardamom, zinger, garlic, turmeric, chili, cumin, etc. are grown in large quantities in Southern States.
