In this paper larvae of Khasi pine shoot borer Dioryctria castanea Bradley (Lepidoptera: Pyralidae) has been described. The freshly hatched larva is cylindrical, ljght yellow in colour which changes to light brown and finally to dark brown in the fifth instar. The full grown larva is 17.42 × 2.0 mm. Head is brown, hypognathus with six pair of ocolli. Of the anterior setae A1, A2 and A3, A1 lies closer to the base of the antenna of the side whereas A2 is posterior to it. Cervical shield and anal plate are brown. Arrangement of crochets of the legs is uniserial and biordinal.
