Abstract
Shale gas is very important unconventional oil and gas resource and has great potential for exploration which is on the initial stage in China. The technology is immature and the awareness of exploration is lower, so it’s a pressing need to develop geophysical technology, master geophysical response characteristics of organic-rich matter in shale and effectively locate TOC spatial distribution which can lay the foundation for the evaluation of gas bearing. Based on the marine shale samples in Southern China, its complex resistivity experiments are completed in lab. The results show that shale has strong or weak induced polarization (IP) effect in different samples and its dispersion property is related to TOC. The electrical response characteristics of shale provide theoretical foundation for shale gas exploration and reservoir evaluation by using complex resistivity method with IP parameters. Then, resistivity and polarizability can be used to image, which develops a new method for shale gas exploration.
