Abstract

The investigation was carried out to make phulkari embroidery more versatile for the contemporary trends in Kurtis and enhance its market potential. The prevailing market trends in Phulkari embroidered Kurtis studied through a market survey of twenty showrooms of Patiala selected through purposive sampling technique apprised the investigator regarding the availability of Phulkari embroidered ready-made (75.00 %) and semi-stitched Kurtis (100.00%) and Kurti yardage (90.00%) in the market which lacked in the style factor of cultural fusion to which young girls are highly receptive. Cotton polyester was found to be most popular for hand embroidered semi-stitched and Kurti yardage (90.00%). Cool colours (100.00%) were most popular for embroidery threads in Phulkari embroidered Kurtis followed by neutral colours. Stiff and soft textures were available in all the retail outlets for Phulkari embroidered Kurtis. Even during these days 'pat' thread is most popularly used followed by twisted silk threads. A-Line silhouette in Phulkari embroidered Kurtis was available at 100.00 per cent retail outlets, followed by tubular silhouette (95.00%). All showrooms offered Kurtis embellished with binding and ribbons, whereas 75.00 per cent each retail outlets possessed Kurtis with mirror or pearl work and braids.

Abstract

The comparison of efficiency of induction cook-top with gas cook-top was done by the selection of 120 respondents randomly from urban area under municipal corporation limits of Ludhiana city. An interview schedule was prepared to collect data from the respondents. The laboratory experiments were conducted to evaluate selected appliances on the basis of efficiency, time and money cost of induction cook-top and gas cook-top. On the basis of the results of household survey, two commonly prepared recipes were cooked on both the appliances. The organoleptic evaluation of the recipes namely: zeera rice and potato vegetable was done by a panel of judges. Induction cook-top was 60.18 per cent efficient than gas cook-top (19.07 %) due to hardly any loss of heat. Induction cook-top took more time to cook both the recipes as compared to gas cook-top,while cooking cost was less in induction cook-top in terms of money cost. Organoleptic scores of cooked recipies were statistically non-significant indicating that there were no differences in both the appliances in terms of cooked food. Therefore, it is suggested that the induction cook-top need to be popularized as it is cost effective and efficient than gas cook-top.

Abstract

Dentistry has become more sophisticated and complex thus requiring precised motor skills and visual acuity. Optical magnification has expanded the horizons of dentistry. During past decades, dentistry has not only evolved clinically but the histological aspects has also played an important part in the development of new materials as well as helped in better evaluation of treatment procedures. Hence this review article details about the possible alternatives of magnification such as magnifying glasses, dental loupes, optical microscopes, electron microscopes, surgical operating microscopes, endoscopes, and orascopes.

Abstract

Background:- Febrile seizure is a common cause of seizures in young children but with an excellent prognosis. In addition to genetic predisposition, febrile seizures are generally thought to be induced by elemental changes such as iron deficiency. Regarding the high prevalence of febrile seizures with iron deficiency anemia in children, the aim of our study is to investigate the role of iron deficiency anemia in febrile seizures patients. Iron deficiency (ID) is the most common nutritional deficiency. The peak age for ID is between 1 and 2 years, which coincides with the peak incidence for febrile seizures. Aim: To study the prevalence of iron deficiency anemia in children aged 6 months to 6 years having febrile seizures. Study design: It is a prospective observational case control study. Material&Method: The present study was included 50 children aged 6 months to 6 years with febrile seizures (cases) and 30 febrile children without seizures (controls), coming to Pediatrics OPD and emergency, Rajindra Hospital Patiala. Hemoglobin level (Hb) and serum ferritin levels were estimated in all the patients. Results: In cases the mean serum ferritin levels was 25.52±2.9 ng/dl and in controls was 61.36±7.7 ng/dl. It was seen that serum ferritin levels were significantly low in children with febrile seizures as compared to controls (p < 0.004). Conclusion: Prophylactic iron supplementation should be considered in all children who are anemic as it may have a preventable role in febrile seizures.

Abstract

The present investigation reports effects of disinfectants on culture contamination, seed germination and seedling growth in eggplant. Mercuric chloride hampers seed germination when seeds are treated with 0.1% solution above 2 min duration and lesser durations are not helpful in controlling in vitro contamination. The highest seed germination (89.97%) was recorded with 50% commercial bleach for 20 min in the genotype BL-3, followed by BR-16 (88.53%), BR-14 (86.19%), BL-5 (86.16%) and BSR-23 (85.57%). However, least number of seeds germinated in BR-18 (10.94%), BSR-25 (13.27%) and BL-7 (18.62%) when disinfected with 75% commercial bleach for 25min. Overall results revealed that 50% commercial bleach concentration (73.76%) was better than 75% (36.85%), and 20 min duration (60.82%) was better than 25 min (49.80%) for seed disinfection. Among the varieties, BL-3 was at the top (68.85%) and BR-18 at the lowest (34.16%) edge for per cent seed germination. Seedling growth (cm) with use of commercial bleach was quite satisfactory compared to disinfection with HgCl₂, where, 50% commercial bleach favored a good stand of plant lets even after 10 days, showing a healthy ischolar_main (3cm), hypocotyl (5cm) and cotyledons (1.5cm).

Abstract

This observational study was conducted on 200 healthy preterm babies delivered in the department of Obstetrics and handled by the Neonatology section of Pediatrics department with the aim to study the breathing pattern in healthy preterm babies and to compare pattern of breathing with gestational age, birth weight and other relevant parameters. The breathing pattern was observed in all preterm babies starting from day 3 of life till the hospital stay. It was found that with increasing gestational age the incidence of Normal breathing increased while the incidence of Periodic breathing and Apnea decreased(table 1). Also a highly significant correlation between birth weight and breathing pattern was found with increase in incidence of periodic breathing and incidence of apneas in low birth weight babies (table 2). The incidence of periodic breathing in healthy Preterm infants was found to be 42% and rest 58% had normal breathing during the period of observation. The incidence of apnea of prematurity in preterm babies was found to be 5.5% (table 3).

Abstract

The management of Spodoptera litura by entomopathogenic Nucleopolyhedrosis Viruses (NPVs) is one of the eco-friendly methods. The present study was aimed to evaluate Nucleopolyhedrosis Virus (NPV) against S. litura and its potential as a bio-pesticide. The Occlusion Bodies (OBs) of S. litura nucleopolyhedrosis virus was isolated from infected larvae collected from cabbage field. Pathogenicity studies evaluated three NPV suspensions viz. SpltNPV-native, SpltNPV-commercial and SpltNPV-NIPHM against second and fourth instar larvae of S. litura recorded maximum mortality at 1×109 OBs/ml. The LC50 values of the SpltNPV-native, SpltNPV-commercial and SpltNPV-NIPHM suspensions against second instar larvae were 0.584, 0.540, 0.625 OBs/mm2 , respectively, which increased to 0.696, 0.620, 0.756 OBs/mm2 against the fourth instar larvae. The LT50 at 1×109 OBs/ml was found to increase from 146.33, 137.51 and 155.88 h for SpltNPV-native, SpltNPV-commercial and SpltNPV-NIPHM suspension, respectively, against the second instar larvae to 178.51, 162.07 and 187.67 h, respectively, against the fourth instar larvae. The cumulative per cent mortality, LC50 and LT50 suggested that the second instar larvae were more susceptible and easier to kill than the fourth instar larvae.
