With a mammoth rural population of 833 million, India bids a large rural market. The countrys rural market scenario is changing because of increasing literacy, awareness of improved living standards, and modernization in the attitude, outlook and lifestyles of the rural folk, both males and females. Rural demographics serve valuable information to the stakeholders of rural areas and provide useful supplementary input for policy dialogue. This article covers four demographic areas viz., population size, population growth rate, sex ratio and literacy rate. The objective of this paper is to examine the trends, decadal differences and present scenario of selected demographics with emphasis on rural- urban distribution of population in the country.Keywords

The current study makes an attempt to know the customer attitude towards usage of plastic money. Technology has drastically changed all the sectors including the financial sector, and the transactions in the banking system have also undergone a remarkable change. The traditional concept of payment through cash is replaced by the credit cards or the debit cards called 'plastic money' that people are using to draw money or to make purchases. This exacting research focuses on the opinion about the acceptance of plastic money, its usability and affordability while they are making an impact on its preference of use in Sivakasi. Data have been collected from 100 respondents using a structured questionnaire covering students, government employees, private organization employees and businessman. It is found that most of the respondents are using plastic money usually for shopping and online purchases and also for purchasing expensive products. It was found that customers prefer plastic money over paper money and the major benefit that the card provides to the customers is the convenience and accessibility. The major problem according to them is the bigger transactional costs and redundant formalities to acquire the cards from the financial institutions. They felt that the future of plastic money is vivid.Keywords

Electronic banking is shifting the banking industry, having the major effects on banking dealings. Banking is nowadays no longer restricted to the branches were one has to move to the branch in person, to withdraw money or put down a cheque or demand a statement of accounts. In factual electronic banking, any inquiry or operation is processed online devoid of any indication to the branch (anywhere banking) at every moment. The electronic banking, thus, at this time is added of a custom to more willingly than an exception in many urbanised countries because of the reality that it is the cheapest system of set that banking services. These days, e-banking is used as an intentional tool by the universal banking zone to invite and keep hold of customers. The main objective of carrying out this study was to measure the attitude of bank employees towards the adoption of E-banking services among public sector banks in Sivakasi. Descriptive and analytical research methodology is used to accomplish the study using census method. The study is conducted in 21 public sector banks in Sivakasi. A questionnaire was developed based on employee's perception, risks associated, challenges, workload, job satisfaction, and employees benefits. The data are collected from 205 bank employees through structured questionnaire. The data were analysed in the course of frequency percentage and Kruskal Wallis test with the help of SPSS.Keywords
