Ready-to-eat canned potato curry made from three potato genotypes namely Kufri Chipsona-1, Kufri Chandramukhi and Kufri Pukhraj were evaluated for quality characteristics in order to determine their suitability for processing. Canned product was stored for a period of 6 months at room temperature to assess its shelf-life properties. Incubation test on the product was carried at 55°C for 45 days. Significant differences in physico-chemical parameters were observed among the genotypes. During storage of canned potato curries, all the quality parameters remained almost stable with the exception of ascorbic acid which decreased during storage, irrespective of genotypes. Physical conditions of cans were found to be satisfactory during storage. Storage study revealed that canned product can be safely stored for up to 6 months with high acceptability ratings. Also, product prepared from Kufri Pukhraj displayed excellent keeping quality during the entire storage period. Incorporation of such potato genotypes into low-cost value added products could serve as an excellent vehicle for enhancing the utilization of this resourceful food crop. Keywords

Ageing is a life spanning process of growth and development from Birth to death. Old age is an integral part of the whole, bringing fulfilment and self actualization. Ageing, along with the functional decline, economic dependence, and social cut off, autonomy of young generation, adds to depression, which further compromises their quality of life. The study was undertaken to correlate the level of depression and quality of life among 95 elderly selected through systematic random sampling technique, in a rural community of Amritsar, Punjab. Tools used were Geriatric Depression Scale and WHO QOL-BREF scale. The obtained data was analysed and interpreted using descriptive and inferential statistics. The major findings of the study reveal that that 81(89.5%) of elderly had mild depression and only 4(4.2%) were severe depressed. Present study reveals that majority 92(96.8%) had good quality of life and only 3(3.2%) had average quality of life. In domain wise quality of life, in environment domain majority of elderly 87(91.6%) had good quality of life. Present study shows that the correlation between depression and quality of life depicts that there is correlation between depression and environment wellbeing domain with r value 0.297.Keywords

This study aims to see the effect of bottom up approach of English language teaching on metacognitive reading awareness of high school students. Experimental design consisting of controlled and experimental group was used in this study. Pre-test was given to the IX class students regarding Metacognitive Awareness of Reading Strategies Inventory (MARSI) by Kouider Mokhtari and Carla Reichard developed in 2002. They were further divided into two groups - Experimental group and Control group. Self made lesson plans were taught to the experimental group for twenty days and ordinary teaching capsule was given to the control group during these twenty days. At the end of the experiment post-test was given to verify the learning outcomes among the students of both the groups. The study demonstrates the positive influence of bottom-up approach on the awareness of metacognitive reading strategies and the ability of students to regulate their own reading processes. Keywords

Background and purpose: Perimenopausal women aged between 41-55 years experience irregularities in menstruation i.e. heavy bleeding, spotting and long gap in the periods from 1-12 months. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of soya powder on selected menopausal problems among perimenopausal women (41-55 years) residing in selected rural areas of District Ludhiana (Punjab). The conceptual framework of the present study was based on general system theory, which was first introduced by Ludwig Von Bertanlanffy (1968). Method: A quantitative quasi experimental research approach was used for this study. The study was carried out in two selected villages of Ludhiana, Punjab. The sample comprised of 60 perimenopausal women who were between 41-55 years. Sample was selected by using purposive sampling technique. Data was collected by administering the Modified Menopausal Rating Scale and Demographic Tool. Data was analyzed by using descriptive and inferential statistics. Findings: The results of this study showed that in pre test, experimental group half of perimenopausal women 50% had moderate level, followed by 33.33% who had severe level and 16.67% who had mild level of menopausal problems, whereas in control group most 46.67% perimenopausal women had moderate level, followed by 40% who had mild level and 13.33% who had severe level of menopausal problems. In post test, in experimental group half of perimenopausal women 50% had mild level and followed by 26.67% who had none level and 23.33% who had moderate level of menopausal problems, whereas in control group half of perimenopausal women 50% had mild level, followed by 36.67% who had moderate level and 13.33% who had severe level of menopausal problems. The differences between the pre test score and post test score was found statistical significant at p≤0.05 level of significance. Interpretation and conclusion The findings of this study support the need to use soya powder to prevent and manage menopausal problems. This study proved that the soya powder had effect on menopausal problems among perimenopausal women. Keywords

The present study is an effort to know about the social as well as the environmental performance of private and public sector banks of India after taking into account the guidelines regarding CSR by Companies Act, 2013. The major CSR initiatives undertaken by Indian Banks are found and ranking of banks is done on the basis CSR scores calculated through content analysis technique. A comparison is made between the social and environmental performance of Indian private and public sector banks by applying t-test. Eradication of extreme hunger and poverty (70%) followed by promotion of education (52%), reduction of child mortality and improving maternal health (45%), environmental sustainability (41%) and rural development (40%) are the major CSR areas of concern in case of private sector banks while rural development (67%) followed by eradication of extreme hunger and poverty (65%), promotion of eduction (52%) and employment enhancing vocational skills (42%) are major CSR initiatives of public sector banks. But both the sectors could not achieve even 50% of the total expected CSR score. J & K Bank (76%) is the biggest social performer followed by Yes Bank, Federal Bank and ING Vysya (60%) and Axis Bank (58%), all the top performers from private sector only. Bank of Baroda and Punjab National Bank (54%) are the top performers of public sector banks. Overall no significant difference is found in the average CSR scores of both the sectors. Keywords

Data distribution is one of the most essential architectures of any serving network. Data storage and its retrieval depend a lot on how the data is organized in the distributed environment. With the fast development of technology, the requirements of users have also changed. A user who was stationary earlier has become mobile now and requires access to the data from anywhere in the world. An unorganized data structure will result in output delay in the network and may further result in user migration from one service provider to another service provider. Data fragmentation is one of the most essential parts when it comes to data storage. Organized data always gives convenience to others to use it conveniently. Due to the vast collection of data extraction of information in a fast manner is very complicated. So, to achieve performance in a distributed system an optimal strategy is required to overcome previous lapses and serves the maximum number of users in a wide geographical network. This research paper proposes a novel relative based fragmentation method that analyses the attributes of the data in relative architecture and is helpful to achieve query performance with better speed and accuracy. To assess the current proposed work a comparison has been drawn between k-means dependent cosine similarity measurement and hybridization of cosine and soft-cosine partition methods for data partitioning. Mentioned results in the article shows that the proposed similarity-based threshold segmentation method outperforms the existing in terms of partitioning strategy, precision, and recall parameters to achieve performance. Keywords
