In the personal study a method od preparing 20% acid mixture on volume/volume has been proposed to achive higher resin yeild from pines. In estimating the growing stock of Eucalyptus in an Agro-forestry system, the problem of optimum sample size, which should provide an accurate estimate of the population characteristic is often felt. The size to be chosen depends upon the variability in the population characteristic and the tolerable margin of error which could be permitted between the estimate of the population characteristic as provided by the sample estimate and the true population value. It has been empirically seen that although variability is not uniform for a given population characteristic from place to place and for varying ages, the coefficient of variation remains fairly stable for populations of differing locations and ages. This fact helps, through statistical theory. in obtaining Ihe optimum sample size. In the present study, the sample size to be taken for volume estimation, at different levels of margin of error, has been determined in respect of five Eucalyptus plantations in Haryana based on the population coefficient of variation.- On the Use of Furnival Index in the Choice of Functional forms in Econometric Studies

Most of the problems in economics are concerned with the study of relationships between economic variables Such a relationship in the form of a mathematical equation is generally used for prediction purposes Hence the specification of an appropriate functional form for a particular situation is of utmost significance. The functional form under a class of linear models may be linear, quadratic, logarithmic, hyperbolic or may be of a mixed nature. It is quite vexing to decide which functional form is most suitable to the situation under study. Here an attempt has been made to illustrate with an example as how the use of Furnival Index can be helpful to arrive at the most appropriate functional form. When the independent variates in a regression model exhibit perfect or high degree of dependence among themselves, the method of least squares fails to provide satisfactory estimates of regression coefficients. The variables are then said to be collinear and the phenomena is termed multicollinearity. In studies pertaining to socio-economic conditions this phenomena is most likely to occur. We are, therefore, not concerned whether or not multicollinearity exists in our data in such situations but upto what degree it exists and affects our estimates, and how the problem can be dealt with, since the presence of severe multicollinearity badly affects the least square estimators and makes them imprecise. Though there are many methods to overcome this problem, we have in our study emphasized the use of Principal Component Analysis as the most suitable method.- On the Use of PBIB Designs in Timber Engineering Experiments

The use of Partially Balanced Incomplete Block Designs (PBIBD) in timber engineering experiments has been described. The experiments are aimed at estimating the average safe load taken by timber 'joints and comparison of different types of connect dry used in making joints. It has been shown that when the experimental material is not' available in sufficient quantities or its cost is too prohibitive, PBIB designs are more appropriate than Randomised block designs.Keywords

Half-sib seedlings belonging to eight Santalum album trees located at different places were quantitatively measured for nursery characters to assess variability and superiority in seedling. Results revealed inter-tree variability was significant. It has also been assessed that the seedlings belonging to the tree numbers KL3 K33, K26, and AP4, are superior in performances and KL3 be the best. The analysis of correlation coefficients among different characters indicate that the collar diameter is significantly negatively correlated with the shoot length. Shoot length and ischolar_main lengths are significantly and positively correlated.Keywords
