This note is based on personal experience gained in the felling operations seen in chir, deodar and fir forests of Tehri Circle and plantations of Land Management Circle, in Uttar Pradesh. Importance of correct felling practices in the better conservation of the forests is discussed and two simple Swiss machines namely Seilzug Greif and Stammpresse Simplex, which can virtually eliminate damage in fellings, are described. These machines are still in the introductory stage in Switzerland. The author had the chance to see them during his FAO. Fellowship tours.- Note on Transplanting of Sal (Shorea robusta)
