This study examined the relationship between collectivism and suicidal ideation among elderly living in a community. Questionnaires from 315 elderly people aged 60 years and older of age were used for analysis. Average collectivism was 3.56 points and average suicidal ideation was 1.83 points among the elderly. Females had a higher level of collectivism than males. Among the elderly who had higher suicidal ideation were atheists, residents in rural areas, those reporting a ‘normal’ or ‘insufficient’ income and a ‘normal’ or ‘bad’ health status. Results also showed that suicidal ideation decreased among the elderly as collectivism increased.
