Application of DC-DC Boost Converter for Solar Powered Traffic Light with Battery Backup

The paper presents the application of a DC-DC Boost Convereter for solar powered traffic light equipment for traffic control. The proposed system gives a high performance of the solar powered traffic light equipment whose adaptability are very attractive for the solar array power tracking in dynamic environments. The input is a solar panel that supplies a voltage of 12 V which is used for this application. The DC Boost converter is successfully implemented using a low cost microcontroller.
