Background/Objectives: An array of 1x5 configuration, which is a simple and compact geometry is being analysed using HFSS software. The proposed result shows it has 2 bands for a single patch antenna at 11.98 GHz and 14.6 GHz resonant frequencies and the resonant frequency is 12.09 GHz for 1x5 array antenna. Methods/Statistical Analysis: By using the single patch, an array of 1x5 is designed and analysed using High Frequency Structural Simulator (HFSS 13), which also has an acceptable value of return loss which is -18.591 dB and -22.779 dB at 11.98 GHz and 14.69 GHz respectively. The designed 1x5 linear array gives a good gain of 5.625 dB and also permissible value of VSWR which is 2.157 and 1.3325 at 11.98 GHz and 14.69 GHz respectively. Findings: A new closely-packed microstrip patch array antenna with 5 rectangular shaped cuts is proposed for the implementation of the police radar system. This antenna can be used in the Ku-band. In this, the substrate material chosen is FR4 epoxy along with inset feeding method. The proposed design achieves a permissible value of S11 which comes out to be around -21.25 dB, a good gain of 5.693 dB and VSWR value of 1.586 at 12 GHz respectively. Application/Improvements: Hence the result which we obtained from the proposed design makes it suitable for Ku-band police radar system. Further by changing the dimensions of the slots, optimization can be done and hence other radiation characteristics can be improved.
