The anti-inflammatory effect of the 100% acetone column purified extracts of gastropod, Drupa margariticola was experimented on albino rats shown promising result. The acute toxicity was noted, the LD50 was found to be 375 mg/kg in 48 hrs of observation. Oral administration of doses up to 0.75g/kg did not show any toxic symptoms and did not provoke any significant change in their general behavior. The extract of D. margariticola at the concentration of 50 and 100mg/kg, p.o showed significant decrease in the paw thickness, 36.5 and 72.9 % respectively at the 5th hour of the experiment. The 100% column fraction of D. margarticola is potent inhibitors of exudative and proliferate phase of inflammation and might have provided valuable information with respect to the efficacy and safety of these compounds, when compared to standard drug, Diclofenac sodium. So it can be inferred that, upon further purification, these gastropod extract may be more potent than the standard drug. The 100% acetone column-purified fraction of Drupa margariticola has possible anti-inflammatory effect.
