Determination of paclitaxel in human blood sample by HPLC method using carbamazepine as internal standard is described. The absolute recovery of paclitaxel from human serum was >90% and the limit of quantification was 0.05 µg/ml. The intra-day relative standard deviation (RSD) ranged from 1. 02 to 3.73% at 1.0 µg/ml, 1.16 to 5.03% at 10.0 µg/ml and 3.33 to 5.01% at 50.0 µg/ml. The inter-day RSD were 1.03, 2.16 and 1.95% at 1.0, 10.0, 50.0 µg/ml, respectively. The method can be applied to measure the serum concentration of paclitaxel in pharmacokinetic and elution kinetics.
