This paper presents the performance of the low cost adsorbent coconut fiber in removing the heavy metals such as Zn(II), Cu(II) and Cr(VI) from textile dye effluent. Biosorption studies were carried out for various parameters such as adsorbent dosage, pH and contact time. The maximum removal of heavy metal ions from the textile dye effluent using activated coconut fiber was evaluated successfully through the percentage of seed germination of Vigna mungo L. with the treated adsorbents.
