Practice of Inclusive Education in North-East India:The Case of Manipur

As per the 2011 census report of the government of Manipur there are 54,110 differently-abled persons m the state of Manipur. Therefore, it is highly pertinent to address the academic mam streaming of the differently-abled individuals m Manipur. In this context the present study surveyed 30 high schools including the government and private schools imlmphal area, the capital of Manipur. The main objective of the study was to find out the practice of inclusive education m different schools of Manipur state. The data were collected with the help of semi-structure interview method. The data were collected from one representative member of each school, that is, the principal or the teacher of the school. It was found that inclusive education was practiced m some schools. However, there was absence of the practice of inclusive education m many other schools. The current findings show that we need to do more for the implementation of inclusive education in the Indian state of Manipur.
