Assessing the Efficacy of a Life Skills Enrichment Program on Mitigating Peer Pressure among University Students

In this study, the effectiveness of a life skills-based intervention program to impede the degree of peer pressure among first-year undergraduate students was scrutinized. A sample of 60 students (30 males & 30 females) having low life skills were purposively identified for the study from five constituent colleges of Punjab Agricultural University enrolled in the academic session 2020-21. Research tools used were Life Skills Assessment Scale by Nair et al. (2010) and Peer Pressure Scale by Singh and Saini (2010). Data analysis was done by descriptive statistics (frequency & percentage) and inferential statistics (independent t-test, paired t-test & the Pearson correlation coefficient). Results showed non-significant gender difference in peer pressure has been reported among students. Significant effectiveness of enrichment programme on the status of peer pressure among freshman undergraduates had been reported that indicates the favorable effectiveness of the intervention. The correlation analysis revealed significantly negative relation of peer pressure to most of the dimensions of life skills.
