Thermography (thermal imaging) has evolved into one of the most valuable diagnostic tools for predictive maintenance. By detecting abnormalities often invisible to the naked eye, thermography allows corrective action to be taken before costly system failures occur. The paper introduces the method of condition monitoring of running equipment using thermography followed in refi nery for last 4 years and the results obtained considering the same. The failure and breakdown were predicted before the occurrence of the same. The occurrences has been lower down from 3.21%–0.25% to total installed equipment per year while the failure rate reduced from 0.29%–0.02% per year.
