Image Fusion is a technique by means of which data from several sources is merged together onto a single image which leads to an increase in the information content within the image in comparison to the source images. The image created through this method is more reliable and accurate therefore such a technique finds its applications across the globe ranging from military to medical fields. In this paper, firstly a brief overview about the method will be provided in order to lay the foundation of this article. At later stages, various techniques and methodologies to undergo the process will be introduced followed by the various realms in which this technique finds its applications in along with the numerous parameters used to compare the fused images on the basis of their performance. At last, few drawbacks will be taken into consideration for each of the method thus leaving a space for future enhancements.
