Education is important not only for the development of one’s personality, but also for the sustained growth of a nation. Elementary education in India, therefore, is the foundation for the development of every citizen and the nation. Though the Government of India has made elementary education compulsory and free, despite all the efforts, till now universalization of elementary education remains a distant dream, because of the persistent poverty and various preconceptions prevailing in the Indian society.
