In today’s fast changing global economy, companies increasingly look to mergers, acquisitions, and corporate restructurings to cope with the growing demands of the stakeholders. In the book, Mergers, Acquisitions and Corporate Restructuring, edited by Chandrashekar Krishnamurti and Vishwanath S R, the authors take a fresh look at the latest trends in the theory and practice of M&A and corporate restructuring. In the recent years, M&A activity as an important growth strategy for corporations has gained popularity across the globe. While the merger activity has been averaging over the years at around US$ 1 to 2 tn, the individual deals that have been struck varied from as low as US$ 500 mn to as high as US$ 25 bn. M&A as a strategy for expansion, modernization, technological upgradation or for realizing complementary benefits(synergies) has been pursued by the corporate world both in times of economic boom or slowdown. The rise in the number, size and frequency of deals has increased the need for sound practical frameworks for the analysis and structuring of these transactions.
