Mentions that Ranganathan's philosophy is central towards USER - the supreme entity in the information arena. Analyses Five Laws of Library Science and finds out the main thrust of every law, interpreted in the light of closeness to 'user focus'. Brings out knowing user community; identifying users, needs and its anticipation; offering some value in meeting their needs; and making and maintaining a close relationship between the user and the library - as imperative for user focus in L&I services. Concludes that Ranganathan's approach to user-focus gives strength to service providers to face challenges of change boldly and favorably.Keywords

Library and Information Science Programmes in India - from certificate programme to the research degree programs at doctoral level are being offered by more than one hundred universities/institutions. Vardhman Mahaveer Open University offers a variety of Library and Information Science Programmes including a Certificate Programme in Digital Libraries (CPDL) and is a leader in the programmes offered in Hindi language. The University has employed various technologies to support learners starting from online admission to making available courses material online. This paper highlights the key features of the CPDL.

On May 2nd, 2018, the UGC published a list of 4305 removed from the list of approved journals. These 4305 journals include 64 Library and Information Science journals which were removed based on various criteria: failing in meeting the primary criteria of maintaining website with address of the editor(s); and having an overall low score than the stipulated score; questionable/poor quality, etc. This paper examines the removed journals in the subject of Library and Information Science in terms of standing, publisher, subject coverage, past rankings, coverage in the indexing and abstracting databases, etc.Keywords

Preservation of research data is an important policy requirement for universities and research organizations so as to manage research data at organizational level and make it available lifelong. However, the importance research data management especially in the context of e-research and data intensive research is not widely recognized both by researchers and research organizations due to lack of research data literacy. Government of India’s teaching learning portal, Study of Webs of Active Learning for Young Aspiring Minds (SWAYAM) has become fully operational for offering Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) in the country. There is a faster growth in the number of courses being offered in different disciplines for varied groups of students through MOOCs. Library and Information Science (LIS) MOOCs are of different level, namely, school level, post school level, master's level, and a course for continuing education for working librarians and LIS teachers working in universities and colleges. The present paper gives an overview of the courses being offered on SWAYAM platform in the subject of Library and Information Science. MOOC on 'Digital Library' was the first LIS course offered during September 2016 – March 2017. In all 13 MOOCs (with 34 course offerings) were announced and completed until June 2019. More than 26000 students enrolled for library and information science courses during this period.Keywords

The role and sphere of online education is growing at all levels of education. The outbreak of COVID-19 has put on hold the classroom education as students are away from campuses. Online education is the only method to continue teaching-learning during the present time. The Ministry of Human Resources and Development (MHRD), Government of India and the University Grants Commission (UGC) have taken many steps to implement and popularise online education in the country in the past and have increased the focus in the circumstances caused due to COVID-19. The INFLIBNET Centre of the UGC has taken numerous initiatives for delivering education online to the doorsteps of the learners in the country even during the lock down period caused due to COVID-19. The present paper elaborates the role INFLIBNET Centre played for delivering education online.Keywords
