A new Chemical Notation System-ALWIN-(for organic compounds) which has, as its basis, the Wiswesser Line Notation is described in this series of papers. In arriving at this notation and its computer implementation, concepts from the Theory or algorithms, Theory of graphs and networks, Theory of programming languages, and the Theory of formal languages have been used. A selective bibliography is provided.- ALWIN - Algorithmic Chemical Notation System for Organic Compounds. Part II: Monocycles. (Non-conventional Methods in Document Retrieval. 17)

In part I of this series (1) we discussed the new chemical notation ALWIN for cyclic structures. This paper deals with the construction of ALWIN for monocyclic organic compounds such as benzene and other carbo-hetero monocycles (2).- ALWIN - Algorithmic Chemical Notation System for Organic Compounds. The construction of ALWIN for fused and spiro ring systems is described. A new method called tessellation method' is used for the topological description of these systems. In order to select a unique code from among the several possibilities, the nodes of the chemical graph are labelled following a precedence grammar and certain selection rules.- ALWIN - Algorithmic Chemical notation System for Organic Compounds.
