The increasing utilization of web resources is attracting faculty and students worldwide. WWW has attracted the attention of educationalists, faculty and students around the world as a potential teaching and learning medium. Today, many medical libraries have set up remote access to their collections, allowing medical professionals to use web resources. The main aim of this paper was to investigate the utilization of web resources by the faculty members and postgraduate students in medical college libraries of Coastal Karnataka. A questionnaire-based survey of six medical college libraries in Coastal Karnataka was conducted. After the investigation of utilization of of web resources, it is observed that faculty members and postgraduate students of medical college libraries in Coastal Karnataka have easy access to the Internet and are using various types of web resources. Keywords

Education plays a vital role in the overall development of an individual. Public library should be a living force behind it. It should cover all sections of society including the illiterate, neo-literate, semi-skilled, children and youth, house-wives etc. Library should create reading habits among the rural people through distribution of books, display of attractive pictures etc. In India, rural population‟s economic needs are very much related to small enterprises and agriculture. The material should be related to better farming techniques, new seed technology, pesticides, good health family planning programmes, cultural values, small savings and other activities related to social evils which will fulfill the purpose of rural libraries. Lack of education is a huge problem for the developing world, and literacy and information literacy just have to be promoted. Therefore rural libraries and school libraries should be main targets for aid from developing countries in order to create a situation where the developing countries could reach the ability to help themselves. Keywords

The current trend is ‘e’ with everything: e-commerce, e-science and e-learning. The world is embarking on a new age, an age of e-learning. Electronic education is rapidly becoming a fixture in higher education. e- Learning encompasses concepts such as ‘virtual universities’ and networked and online learning. It is almost two decades now that various schemes and programs have been launched both at government and non-governmental levels to develop ICT (Information and Communication Technology) skills in teachers. Various universities in India have designed specific courses for this purpose. Organizations like the NCERT, UGC, NCTE etc. have been launching schemes to enhance the ICT skills of teachers. However, in a big country like India with millions of teachers at different levels, it is indeed difficult to produce ICT-enabled teachers on a large scale within a short period. The problems are complex and issues are numerous. In this paper, we present an overview of e-learning initiative at Manipal University, Manipal. Keywords

Information is critical to successful implementation of responsible fisheries management at local, regional and global levels. Information, whether on paper or electronic media must be available and accessible and its content must be known to potential users. Electronic information services are crucial to the development of fisheries sector, fisheries education, research and development in India. There are four fisheries college libraries in South India which are rendering electronic information services to the users to fulfill the mandate and mission of the fisheries institutions. This paper describes the evaluation of electronic information services in the light of current status of electronic information services in fisheries college libraries in South India. It also poses the challenges these libraries and information centers face and suggests possible solutions. Keywords

The present approach towards partnership, networking consortia and resource sharing adopted by Indian libraries need radical changes to evolve responsive partnership in order to achive best performance in service. Due to the increase in cost of e-journals, the library professionals have initiated the sharing resources in cooperative acquisitions, document delivery and inter library loans. The paper highlights the importance of consortia purchasing in this digital era stating its salient features and pricing models. This paper also discusses about the FORSA and INDEST Consortium. Keywords

The present approach towards partnership, networking, consortia and resource sharing adopted by libraries need radical changes to evolve responsive partnerships in order to achieve best performance in service. Cooperation amongst institutions for sharing their library resources is being practiced for decades. The proliferation of electronic resources in the networked society has resulted in the development of "shared subscription" or "consortia-based subscription" to journals everywhere in the world. Shared-subscription to electronic resources through consortia of libraries is a feasible strategy to meet the pressures such as diminishing budget, increased user’s demand and rising cost of journals. Keywords

In the digital age, it becomes both a challenging issue and an opportunity for libraries to provide electronic resources in networked environment. With networking technology of Internet it is possible to form any number of logical networks using the Net as the backbone. Library and information system networking in India have come into existence more than two decades ago. By utilizing the support of the regional and national level networking, libraries in India should corporately establish library consortia for offering and shared electronic resources. Many libraries like technical libraries have their own network existing within their own locations. These networks can be expanded to enhance the access to the information resources through collaborative partnerships, in the form consortia. This paper also discusses about the library networking and INDEST–AICTE consortium. Keywords

Describes the importance of information for the development of fisheries sector and its contributions to the Indian economy. Stresses the need for establishment of National Fisheries Information System with the ICAR Head Quarters being the central coordinating unit, for the benefit of research workers, policy makers and administrators in the field of Fisheries Sciences. Databases on bibliographical information i.e. published research, ongoing research, etc. have to be created. The development of such a National Information System requires decentralization and the cooperation of other institutions and organizations in the country but also requires active support and cooperation from international agencies and developed nations. The services to be offered by the system are also highlighted. Keywords
