Abstract

The overall research output in social sciences consisting of 2681 papers in Pakistan, 993 papers in Bangladesh, 521 papers in Sri Lanka and 331 papers in Nepal during 2008-12 has been analyzed with a view to study the publication growth rate and citation impact, share of international collaborative papers and leading collaborators, broad subject-wise scatter of publications, geographical distribution of publications, contribution and impact of leading institutions and identification of most productive journals contributing to social science research. The data for the study has been derived from Scopus international multidisciplinary bibliographical database.

Abstract

The comparative research output in S&T of four South Asia countries, namely Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and Nepal has been analyzed during 2001-11. It focused on their publication growth, publication share in global output, share of international collaborative publications and broad and narrow subject areas of focus. The data covered in this study has been derived from SClmago Journal and Country Rank website (http://www.scimagojr.com), which is based on Scopus database.

Abstract

The publication analyses high productivity organizations in India in environmental science, using publications data from Scopus database for the period 2008 to 2012 for identifying their overall strength and weakness measured on few quantitative and qualitative indicators. It also provides a comparative evaluation and performance of different types of Indian organizations in environment research. The study concludes that IITs (Institutes of National Importance) and research institutes model of funding for research are comparatively more effective in giving performance in terms of quantity and quality. The publication also lists suggestions for national policy formulation for growth and development of environmental science research in the country.

Abstract

The paper examines 4117 global publications in nasal polyps, as covered in Scopus database during 2004-13, experiencing an annual average growth rate of 6.92% and citation impact per paper of 3.30. The world nasal polyps research output came from 83 countries, of which the top 10 most productive countries namely USA, UK., Germany, Turkey, Japan, South Korea, China, Italy, Belgium and India accounted for 63.15% and 91.24% share of the global publication and citation output during 2004-13. USA again contributed the largest citation share to the global citations in nasal polyps, followed by UK, Belgium, Germany, Italy, Japan, China, South Korea, Turkey and India during 2004-13. The top 10 most productive countries share of international collaborative papers in nasal polyps varied from 6.25% to 53.70% during 2004-13, with highest share coming from Belgium, followed by UK, China, Germany, Italy, USA, Japan, South Korea, India and Turkey during 2004-13. Medicine contributed the largest publication share (90.72%), followed by immunology&microbiology (10.98% share), biochemistry, genetics&molecular biology (5.68% share) and pharmacology, toxicology&pharmaceutics (3.13% share) during 2004-13. The 15 most productive Indian organizations contributing to global nasal polyps research have contributed 690 publications, accounting for 16.76% to its total output during 2004-13. The average productivity per organization, average citation impact per publication, h-index and share of international collaborative publications of the top 15 most productive global organizations were 46, 8.99, 16.67 and 28.70%, respectively during 2004-13. The top 15 most productive journals contributing to global nasal polyps research have contributed 652 publications, accounting for 35.73% share to its global output during 2004-13.

Abstract

Examines 733 Indian publications on social media research, as covered in Scopus database during 2004-13, experiencing an annual average growth rate of 168.31% and citation impact of 1.27. The world social media research output came from several countries, of which the top 15 accounts for 81.95% share of the global output during 2004-13. India's global publication share was 1.97% during 2004-13 and hold 13^th rank in global publication output. Only 37.38% of Indian publications on social media were cited one or more times since their publication till March 2015. India's social media research output came from several organizations and authors, of which the top 10 contributed 30.42% and 17.87% share respectively of its total output during 2004-13. India's international collaborative share in social media was 22.10% during 2004-13. The paper stressed the need for the development of a national social media policy by Indian government.

Abstract

The paper is the result of the examination of 1206 publications on Indian cloud computing research, as covered in Scopus database during 2004-13, experiencing an annual average growth rate of 25.51% during 2008-13 and citation impact per paper of 11.69. The world cloud computing research output (21316 publications) came from several countries, of which the top 10 countries (China, USA, Germany, India, UK, Taiwan, Australia, Italy, Japan etc) accounted for 80.57% share of the global output during 2004-13. The major institutional contribution to cloud computing research comes from universities, followed by engineering colleges, institutes of national importance, industrial enterprises and research institutes during 2004-13. India's global publication share was 5.66% and occupied 4th rank in global publication output during 2004-13. The Indian cloud computing output comes from several organizations and authors, of whom the top 15 and 10 authors contributed 33.25% and 7.30%, share respectively during 2004-13. India's international collaborative share in cloud computing was 11.69% during 2004-13. Computer science accounted for the largest publication share (79.44%) of the output in cloud computing, followed by engineering (22.80%), mathematics (7.30%), social science (2.57%), etc during 2004-13. Suggest the need for the development of a cloud economy and the adoption of cloud services and build suitable policy and regulation to encourage migration of IT services towards the cloud.

Abstract

The present study examines the world publications output (205) on "RFID Technology and Libraries" published during 2002-14, using a series of bibliometric indicators. The world output on 'RFID Technology and Libraries' registered 5.04% annual average growth and citation impact of 3.91 citations per paper in 13 years. The distribution of world publication output is skewed. The top 8 most productive countries (out of a total of 35) alone accounted for 67.32% world share. The top 8 countries which include - China, USA, Japan, Taiwan, India, South Korea, Malaysia and U.K. - accounted for 42.20% world citations share. However, the distribution of world output is widely scattered across 158 participating organizations. The top 14 organizations accounted for just 23.41% world publication share and 21.22% world citation share. The distribution of world output is also scattered widely across 139 authors. The top 15 authors accounted for just 23.41% world publication share and 17.73% world citation share. RFID applications into computer science was the largest (52.20% share), followed by social sciences (36.10%), engineering (33.66%), business, management and accounting (5.85) and biochemistry, genetics and molecular biology (3.90%) during 2002-14. The top17 highly cited papers were individually cited from 10 to 286 times in 13 years since their publication year. The USA contributed 7 highly cited papers and Hong Kong, India, Switzerland and Taiwan contributed 2 each and Japan, South Korea and Jamaica 1 each.

Abstract

This paper analyzes India's research output in rare earths on a series of scientometric indicators. India published a total of 11,838 publications in the area of rare earths in 10 years during 2005-14 registering an average annual growth of 11.38%, citation impact of 7.44 citations per paper, and accounted for 5.18% global publications in rare earths for the period ranking as the 6th most productive country in the world. The paper profiles 15 most productive countries in rare earths, 20 most productive organizations and 20 most productive authors on a series of indicators including global publications share, global citation share, average productivity, citations per paper, h-index, and share of international collaborative papers during 2005-14. The paper also identifies top 20 most productive journals reporting India's research in rare earths during 2005-14. Suggests the needs for developing a national policy for catalyzing R& D on rare earths research in the country, increased investments in R& D, identification of areas of strategic interest and identification of top R& D institutions wherein future research could be conducted.
