In the context of achieving a national set target of 60 GW by 2022, a study was carried out in Kayathar, Tuticorin district, Tamil Nadu, India on noise propagation from wind turbines. Acoustic and non-acoustic parameters were measured according to IEC 61400-11 at wind speeds of 4-13 and 0.7-8.6 m/s. The onsite measurements were compared with ISO 9613-2; this showed a difference of ± 5 dB(A) for every increment in the distance. An equation was derived to obtain sound pressure level (dB(A)) at the base of the tower for wind turbines at varying distance of measurement.
