Built in Test Equipment Analysis/Troubleshooting and Trace Report Automation for a Flight Management System during Landing Phase

A clear trend in the aerospace industry is to place greater reliance on software systems and many FMS subsystems are implemented primarily in software. Fault avoidance is coupled with fault removal methods, i.e., the verification and validation techniques applied to detect possible faults. Some systems also provide techniques for on-the-fly fault detection in order to locate the source of any error and thus to minimize the effects of hardware and software faults. This can be achieved by fault tolerant systems. In general, it is not possible to avoid all hardware and software faults. Nevertheless, it is desirable to design fault tolerant hardware platforms and to apply adequate fault avoidance and fault removal methods while specifying hardware and software. This paper involves proactive end to end FMS software fault monitoring and surfacing of latent/potential errors early in the product lifecycle.

Tracing will be based on Customer Requirement, System Requirement, Software Design, Software Requirement and Test. The trace tool enables the identification of trace gaps between different levels and addressing the gaps will ensure complete flow-down and coverage of customer/product requirement. Finally it involves complete automation of trace report generation process / refining of trace metrics for the Product.
