Performance Appraisal:A Survey of Organizational Practices in India

This paper reports the findings of a study on performance practices of organizations in India. A survey type methodology was used to obtain the appraisal forms used by different organizations. The sample covered a wide range of organizations classified on the basis of types (commercial, government, or other); ownership (Indian, multinational corporation, or jointventure); sector (private or public); industry, size, and geographical regions. Various aspects of appraisal were studied including frequency, approach, technique, appraiser details, appraisal for training and developmental needs, and potential appraisal.
