The corporate philosophy governing labour relations in Tata Steel flows out of the ideals of the Founoer, Jamsetji Tata, who, as a one-man Planning Commission (to quote Jawaharlal Nehru), started his pioneering experiments in labour welfare more than 100 years ago in his first large scale industrial venture - the textile mills at Nagpur. Tata Steel, which was conceived by the Founder as an essential ingredient of India's economic emancipation, the two others being Electric Power and Scientific Education, was bom three years after his death.
