Indian railways are today one of the largest users of welding consumables in the country, through welding as a fabrication tool was recognised only in the fifties with the setting up of the production units e.g. Chittaranjan Locomotive works, Integral Coach Factory, Madras and Diesel Locomotive Works, Varanasi under foreign collaborations.
