Among the seven methods of friction welding developed so far, it is the conventional or continuous drive and the inertia or stored energy methods which are used quite extensively. The inertia method is more popular in the USA. Both these processes have merits and demerits of their own. It is difficult to compare both these methods as a whole, hence a comparison has been worked out in the light of the process characteristics and capabilities.

The inertia method is more popular in the USA. Both these processes have merits and demerits of their own. It is difficult to compare both these methods as a whole, hence a comparison has been worked out in the light of the process characteristics and capabilities.
