Metablites of Melatonin:Formation and Properties of Methoxylated Kynuramines

Melatonin, by virtue of its radical scavenging and electron-donating properties, can be oxidized by various enzymatic and non-enzymatic mechanisms. Apart form 6-hydroxymelatonin, cycle 3-hydroxymelatonin and some unidentified substances, a major product, AFMK (=N1-acetyl-N2-formyl-5 mehoxykynuramine), is formed by pyrrole-ring cleavage.
