Performance Management system is now widely recognized as a significant vehicle for improving performance and productivity of both employees and organizations. Therefore many organizations are re-examining their current performance management systems and evaluating the significance of the same in overall growth of the employees and organization. The topic under study is ―A study of employee performance appraisal‖. The main objective of the present research was to study the employee performance appraisal in the manufacturing sector and analyze the effectiveness of the present performance system being followed in this sector. Another objective was to collect information about drawbacks of the present performance appraisal system in place in the organization.

Managing human resources in today‘s dynamic environment is becoming more and more complex as well as important. Recognition of people as a valuable resource in the organization has lead to an increased trends in employee maintenance, job security etc. Research deals with the performance appraisal of few companies in manufacturing sector. In this report we have studied and evaluated the performance appraisal process carried out in the companies.

The results obtained from the research show that performance appraisal definitely focus on the overall development and growth of an employee. The employees in the organizations were directly approached and related data was collected through the questionnaire. The data was then analyzed though Pie chart method. From these inference were drawn, based on the inferences, it is found that most of the respondents fell that the performance appraisal system done by the organization is comfortable and satisfactory. 65% respondents were satisfied with already existing performance appraisal system. Some employees want a change in the existing appraisal system. Recommendations are made for training need as well.
