Padma Shri Dr. Manmohan Attavar

Dr. Manmohan Attavar passed away in October 2017. Dr. Attavar was born on 12 July 1932, and obtained his M.Sc. (Agri) in 1961 from the University of Agricultural Sciences, Dharwad and his Doctorate in Plant Breeding and Genetics at Montana State University. On returning to India in 1965, he set-up Indo-American Hybrid Seeds (IAHS) at Bangalore, dedicated to quality and service to the farming community. IAHS has grown from strength to strength, and is one of the leading hybrid seed companies in India. In 1967, the first batch of Petunia hybrid seeds produced in greenhouses was exported to USA. Dr. Attavar recognized the tremendous untapped potential of horticulture in India and was instrumental in actualizing the concept of ‘Lab-to-Land’ program in agriculture.
