Two-Wheeler Market: Its Growth and Students' Buying Behaviour

In India three-fourth of production in automobile sector belongs to two wheeler (2W) segment and the demand for 2W is more due to several factors positively influencing it. So, this analytical and empirical research aims to study the growth of two-wheeler (2W) market in the production, sales of domestic and export markets. Further, this study focuses on the 2W brand preference among the students and various influencing factors on their buying decision. In order to complete the study, secondary data were used from 2005-06 to 2011-12 and primary data collected from 150 students from Coimbatore District of Tamil Nadu. This study concluded that the 2W market was facing continuously descending trend from 2007-08 to 2009-10 according to its production, domestic and export sales. This study predicts that 2W production market which will reach 18mn vehicles in 2014-15. Finally, this study concluded that nearly half of the students preferred Hero and Honda bikes.
