Pattern of Head Injury in Homicidal Deaths

Homicide is a reflection of extreme aggression. Various aspects like epidemiological and investigations in the Indian judicial system have large impact in terms of court trials. This study was aimed to find out the pattern of head injury in homicidal cases of different motives and also to find out the most vulnerable portion of the body so as to minimize the loss of human life. In this study a total of 110 cases of homicidal head injury were studied. Out of 193 cases of homicide, head was the target region in 110(56.99%) cases. Male to female ratio was 3:1. The most frequent affected age group was between 30- 39 years. Service class (27.27%) was more involved. Personal dispute (40%) was the most common motive. Lacerated wound (41.82%) was the leading injury. The prime weapon was hard&blunt object (63.64%). Subdural haemorrhage with subarachnoid haemorrhage (33.63%) and Comminuted depressed fracture (17 cases) was the commonest findings of the present study.
