About Journal
The Indian Forester, a pioneer journal in the field of Forestry Research established in 1875 has been serving the cause of Scientific Forestry Research since its inception. It is closely associated with the continuous advancement of forestry, and is a storehouse of information for those who want to indulge deep into the progress of forestry in the country.
The Indian Forester is indeed a milestone not only in the history of Indian Forestry but also that of International Forestry Scenario.
The first issue of The Indian Forester was brought out in July 1875, initially as a quarterly and later from January 1883 as a monthly journal. The Indian Forester was printed and published by the Pioneer Press, Allahabad till March 1932. Its assets and records were frozen in Pakistan and it was only after many crisis and trials that it was finally put on a secure basis in India.
The Indian Forester has always endeavoured to provide its readers, the information regarding the latest research and developments in the country on topical issues by bringing out special issues on topics such as conservation, Eucalyptus, earth summit, wild life, vegetative propagation, biodiversity, sustainable development, teak (Tectona grandis), wild life conservation, neem, agro-forestry, participatory forestry management, wild life protection, environment, poplar, wood, energy, social forestry, bamboo, medicinal plants and climate change.
As to our principles, they are decidedly liberal and independent. We, and all who communicate with us, are free to express what they think; we shall not repress any criticism on what we honestly believe to be wrong, or say anything that we do not believe to be true, to please anyone. But free, full and unfettered discussion of every principle and practice is the very life of forest science and forest art.
The Indian Forester is a fountain of information and learning which nourishes and enlightens the entire community’s of foresters and scientists on scientific forestry and allied disciplines in the country. During its career of 134 years, it has taken an honorable place as one of the world’s pioneers in scientific forestry. It is the oldest journal on tropical forestry and has been very closely associated with the science of forestry with distinction for the country. The issues of 129 years (Vol.1 to 129) have published thousands of articles on all aspects of scientific forestry.
