Trainees at the Wildlife Institute of India were asked to agree or disagree with statements in regard fo ecodevelopment and participation. Contradictions and scepticism about these concepts became apparent. To convince the field practitioner of their usefulness it is argued that problems need to be better defined and aspects amenable to treatment be dealt with first. If opportunity and cooperation with the local people are actively sought, such action can be tied into a coherent approach to ecodevelopment.

Abstract
