The initial growth and seeding behaviour of the two species Albizia falcalaris and Leucaena leucocephala under North Bengal conditions have raised positive hopes towards a solution of the vexed problem of identifying really fast growing species suitable for multifarious purposes. Because of the extremely fast rates of growth exhibited and also the diverse domestic uses to which they can be put, these two species appear ideally suitable for Social Forestry purposes in the North Bengal plains. The minimum areas of land likely to be required, when used for Social Forestry purposes, have also been indicated.
