Mobilisation of Youth for Social forestry
Subscribe/Renew Journal
Reckless destruction of trees by man has caused desolation, aridity and ugliness. As a result we are short of food, fodder and fuel. Environmental pollution poses a serious challenge to healthy living. Social Forestry aims at developing man's love and liking for the trees and growing them for various goods and services associated with them. Government lands for afforestation are limited. Trees can be planted on village shamla's but the programme cannot succeed without the active invalvement of village communities in planting, protecting and rearing of trees. Village youth, both boys and girls, can play a significant role in motivating and educating the members of the society. Youth clubs and Mahila Mandals need to be properly organised and trained in rural service and tree culture.
