The pericarp and the shell of soap-nut fruits have been chemically analysed. The pericarp has been found to contain water solubles as high as 74.20% while shells have been found to be rich in crude fibre. The kernels on expulsion yielded 24.0% and on solvent extraction 38% of the oil. Samples of soap were prepared using this oil. The exhausted cake was used as a filler in the soap preparation. The pericarp powder and the samples of soap prepared were found to have good cleaning properties.
