Results are described of the two experiments carried out at the Forest Research Institute, Dehra Dun, on the dryage of sal fuel-wood, in the form of whole billets as well as split-wood. The percentage loss of weight depends on the season of stacking and varies from 25 per cent. to 45 per cent. of the original weight. The material stacked in summer starts from a lower moisture content on account of loss of moisture before stacking due to dry weather condition. Split-wood dries more rapidly than whole billets. For complete drying to about ro to 14 per cent. moisture content, six to 12 months are necessary.
