Tanzania launched afforestation programme in 1968 for the purpose of controlling enviromnental degradation and to provide fuel wood.. The total achievement of village afforestation to date is about 115,000 ha scattered in different villages allover the country. One of the prerequisites in village forestry planning is the accurate quantification of trees and shrubs grown in the villages. Remote sensing techniques combined with the farmer based data capture system seem to be the possible effective technique for the assessment of the scattered trees and shrubs grown in the village.
