Conservation of Biological Diversity - West Bengal Scenario

In West Bengal 34.48% of the forest area is protected area covering National Parks, Sanctuaries, Tiger Reserves etc. There are 16 different forest types in the State which has been identified as per Champion and Seth's classification and maintained as Preservation Plots. Participative method afforest Management has been taken as tool for maintenance of biodiversity on the basis of experience of Arshari experiment. The survey and evaluation method to study biodiversity has been developed. Analogous model of plantation forestry is prescribed for conservation of maximum number of species.
